Program Highlights

Designed for Maximum Flexibility, Engagement and Retention

The Black Belt Program is designed to be the most accessible pathway into the teaching profession possible. This includes being self-paced, recognizing our trainees are often working other jobs and/or caring for family at the same time as completing the program. We use gamification best practices to make learning fun and rewarding. As trainees complete the modules, they progress from White Belt (cotton) to Black Belt (silk), acquiring badges are they achieve each milestone.

Online Delivery That Works With Limited Technology

Long before COVID-19, our programs have been designed around online delivery. This is because it allows our programs to reach the most remote areas of the world, which also tend to be the areas most in need. Despite being digital, we have taken careful consideration to build modules on a platform that works on almost any internet connection or device.

The Trainees Become The Trainers

Giving back is not only an important value we aim to instill in all future teachers, but it’s a core part of the professional development strategy as well. Successful trainees are equipped to mentor others, becoming resource persons themselves and sharing their knowledge as adjunct members of the 1MT faculty. This supplies trainees with what is often their first paid teaching role or with a supplementary teaching opportunity to their regular income, making them more satisfied with their jobs and building a stronger peer-to-peer community.

Program Completion Unlocks Further Opportunities

Upon completing The Black Belt Program, trainees qualify for an immersive boot camp as well as several ongoing workshops facilitated in partnership with our partner university—Queen’s University.
